Ms. Susan Elizabeth Shelor, age 91 of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on November 11, 2023. She was born in Patrick County on June 10, 1932, to the late Posey Lester Shelor and Eloise Badger Newell Shelor. In addition to her parents, Ms. Shelor was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn D. Shelor, Joseph B. Shelor, and Morgan L. Shelor; two sisters, Nancy Wynn and Alice Campbell; and a favorite nephew, Jay Shelor.

Susie Betts graduated from Virginia Tech and the Medical College of Virginia and enjoyed a successful career in laboratory sciences education for decades.  She loved the Lord and her church, Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, where she served as Treasurer for many years and was a choir member.  She loved her homeplace, Tobax, where she was born and died.  She loved her family, which led to a sound knowledge of the Shelor genealogy.  She made many attractive woodworking pieces and needlework pictures.  She tenderly cared for several favorite cats during her lifetime.

Ms. Shelor is survived by a daughter, Kathryn S. Higgs and husband, Dale Higgs; one sister, Edna Ann Williams of Roanoke; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services for Ms. Shelor will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  If desired, memorials may be made to Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, 2511 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.  Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted the arrangements and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
