It was a family affair for the Lawsons at the First Annual Patrick County Kids’ Trout Fishing Day. Daughters of Ryan and Crystal Lawson, Sarah (left), and Amilya (right), are proud of their catches of the day.

The Mayo River Rail Trail was a center of attraction on Saturday, April 20, as an estimated 155 people attended the first annual Patrick County Kids’ Trout Fishing Day.

Isaac Cunningham Fields (left), and father John Neff, cruise the river for their next successful fishing spot.

Children of all ages participated in the event while families helped and cheered.

BST provided concessions.

Several members from Falling Creek Hunting Club, Smith River Trout Unlimited, Patrick SWCD, Stuart Rotary Club and Patrick County High School Fishing Team helped those who partook in fishing.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries stocked the river with trout. (photos by Jaymie Mordue)
